Down syndrome sufferer Lucy spent the first six years of her life as an orphan.

Thankfully, this circumstance did not last eternally. Lucy was taken from China and given to a devoted American family.

After residing in an orphanage since birth, her adoptive family was worried about how their little daughter would respond to and handle her new situation when she finally arrived.

Before meeting their adopted daughter, Brent and Audrey Shuk were anxious. The couple believed there was place in their hearts for one more despite having five biological children already.

When Lucy and her family arrive in their new country, she first meets them at the airport in Houston,

Texas. When she eventually meets her new parents, she is filled with emotion as she warily scans the area.

Audrey rushes to welcome her newborn baby, whose feelings have also taken over.Then, though, Lucy says something that makes everyone cry.

The little girl struggled to talk, but at that moment she clearly pronounced the word ‘MOM.’
