Babies are adorable blessings that cheer up their families, but occasionally, unforeseen events may prevent this from being the case.

Childcare may be a hardship in circumstances where parents are unable to provide adequate care or take on the frequently challenging obligations.

When circumstances like this arise, some parents are forced to either give their children up for adoption or, in the worst cases, leave them outside and vulnerable to unforeseeable danger.

Due to this, Monica Kelsey, CEO of Safe Haven Box, developed the project to enable under-resourced

parents a better option to discreetly give their children a chance at a better life. This is how the headline-grabbing tale of baby Zoey began.

In January 2023, an all-nighter firefighter from Florida was going about his business when he was startled by a 2 a.m. alert at the station.

As soon as he recognized that a baby had been dropped inside the safe haven box placed in the office building,

the emergency responder comprehended the gravity of the issue. He swung into action, making sure that his subsequent actions kept the infant secure.

Over 30 newborns have benefited from Safe Haven Baby Boxes’ 148 boxes distributed across the country since its founding in 2016.

The beds are in the shape of bassinets, and the boxes are equipped with temperature-controlled mechanisms to keep the babies comfy, according to the official website.

The non-profit’s main objective is to increase public knowledge of the Safe Haven Law. According to the website’s

information, the program also included a hotline that has fielded more than 8,000 calls from residents of every state.

The fact that Kelsey was abandoned as a baby and that a similar program existed in South Africa gave her the idea to launch Safe Haven Baby Boxes.

Kelsey made the decision to try to save as many motherless kids as she could after seeing how a church in Cape Town supplied little boxes for abandoned babies.

Baby Zoey was saved from being left without care years later when Vincent, a firefighter, discovered her in the box set up at his workplace.

Emergency responders reportedly admitted that they initially believed it to be a false alarm, according to CBS Miami.

She did, however, have a small bottle and her umbilical chord was tied with a shoelace when he discovered her.

The paramedic went on to say that as soon as he had the baby in his arms, he fell in love. For years,

Vincent and his wife Katie had been trying to conceive. As he drove the infant to the hospital for adequate care, thoughts began to race through his mind.

According to TODAY, Vincent left a note at the hospital claiming to be well-equipped along with his wife.

The firefighter and his wife were permitted to take the newborn home two days after they found her. Six months after they found Zoey, the couple adopted her. Says Katie

‘We really felt in our hearts that we wanted to let the birth mom know in some way, shape, or form that she is safe, she is happy, and she is very loved.’

He said he made the decision to tell the tale so that Zoey’s birth mother may find some solace. His wife added that she believed her actions to be ‘respectable.’

We want her to know that her child is cared for and that she is unconditionally loved, the firefighter said.
