Martin Sheen and his wife of 60 years, who lay on the chilly ICU floor for him, had ‘every day’ celebrations.

One of the few Hollywood couples who not only succeeds, but also sets a wonderful example for other couples to follow, is Martin and Janet Sheen.

They have been together for more than 60 years and have kept their word to support one another through good times and bad.

Many people are unaware that Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez was Martin Sheen’s birth name. As the son of Irish and Spanish immigrants, he has enjoyed a prosperous career in Hollywood.

His performances in ‘Mission Impossible,’ ‘Hawaii Five-O,’ and ‘The American President’ are well-known and received positively by critics.

However, it was his portrayal of Captain Benjamin Willard in the epic war film ‘Apocalypse Now’from 1979 that made him a household name.

Sheen may be proud of more than just his over 60 acting credits and prolific, lucrative Hollywood career. Along with being successful, he and his wife Janet Sheen have a great marriage.

The actor met his wife when he was 20 years old and living in New York. Janet had recently relocated to

the city after being awarded scholarships to Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Institute of Art.

She was a scholarship student at the New School for Social Research when the couple first met. When they first met, they had a strong chemistry and fell in love.

They were a young, poor couple. They occasionally ran out of money for food and had to save and scrim for only the necessities.

Despite their impoverishment, they chose to get married on December 23, 1961, after learning Janet was expecting. At a nearby Jewish deli, they held a small reception after their wedding.

Sheen has always claimed that, despite how modest everything was, it was perfect for him. ‘I couldn’t have asked for a better day,’ someone said.

Their oldest child, Emilio, was born in 1962. His eldest child continued his father’s career in Hollywood

by playing Andrew Clark in ‘The Breakfast Club’ and going on to direct a number of well-known films. As the second child of the union, Ramón Sheen was born in 1963.

Prior to establishing Estévez Sheen Productions with his father in the early 2000s, Ramón tried his hand at acting as well.

The third child of Martin Sheen, Charlie Sheen, was born in 1965 and is arguably the most well-known of the family.

Charlie’s bad-boy persona is well-known in Hollywood. He co-starred in the movie ‘Wall Street’ with his father.

His other acting roles include Charlie Harper in the popular television series “Two and a Half Men.”

Renée Estevez, who followed in the footsteps of her father and elder brothers and pursued a career as an actress in Hollywood, was born to the couple two years after Charlie.

Acting is something that Janet Sheen has dabbled with, most notably in the 1983 miniseries ‘Kennedy.’

However, she has also worked behind the camera as a producer for the 1989 movie ‘Beverly Hills Brats’ and as the executive producer for the movie ‘ The Way,’ which stars her husband.

They seemed to be living the ideal Hollywood life. But at the end of the 1970s, everything came dangerously close to collapsing. On the edge of passing away, Martin Sheen.

The story starts when Sheen was in his thirties and working on ‘Apocalypse Now,’ a significant undertaking that he anticipated would

catapult him into celebrity on a global scale. He was unable to stand when he awoke one morning at their isolated set location.

While still on the floor, he dressed, then dragged himself to the road. Before being picked up, he had to wait for someone to walk by.

Everyone took note of Sheen and worried about his wellbeing. After that, he lost consciousness, and he thought his life was over.

The cast and crew became anxious due to the remote location, but they managed to get a local doctor to assist stabilize what was a

serious heart attack before flying him to a hospital with better equipment. Even his last rites were performed by a local priest because it was believed he wouldn’t live.

The actor later admitted that playing the character in the movie had severely damaged both his physical and mental health.

He was transported to a hospital in Manila where Janet eventually showed up. ‘Babe, it’s only a movie. Please remember that this is just a movie.

In addition to his heart attack, he also experienced a psychological breakdown. Janet was by his side the entire time,

never leaving. Sheen remembers how she found a therapist in New York and made him call him every day.

‘I completely broke down. I let my spirit out. I sobbed nonstop. I went all gray. In intensive care, I was. Janet dozed off next to me on the floor.

Sheen says that his wife was a major contributor to his improved health and that he owes his recovery to her.

According to reports, Sheen underwent quadruple bypass surgery—a heart procedure done to increase blood flow to the heart—and was subsequently admitted to a Los Angeles hospital in December 2015.

His eldest son Emilio assured the public that there was no need to panic because the issue was simply preventive

in nature and aimed at preserving his father’s health. Sheen was recovering well after his operation, which went smoothly.

Not surprisingly, he is doing fantastically well and is out of the intensive care unit. He is anticipated to not only be at home

for Christmas but also to have fully recovered by the time he starts working on season three of the Netflix comedy ‘Grace and Frankie’ early in the following year.

Later, he said that, as usual, his wife was at his side and saw to it that he had all he required

to feel well. She made him laugh and told him to unwind even in the most dire circumstances.

The actor is renowned for praising his wife in public. But he did admit that they don’t celebrate anniversaries very often

and only do so when their kids or grandkids insist. The reason for this is that he considers ‘every day is a celebration with this dame.’

Genuinely watching out for and caring for one another, the couple. But in all my life, I’ve never encountered a person with more integrity.

Perhaps the fact that they continue to surprise each other is the key to their long-lasting happiness.

‘And the relationship is that. Since [Janet] always disappears just as soon as I catch up with her, I genuinely have no idea who she is.
