After getting her $3 million check, Coco Gauff honors Billie Jean King for fighting for equal pay.

Billie Jean King is being honored by Coco Gauff because she is a feminist icon and because she fought against

discrimination in the sports world so that other women who came after her would not have to. Gauff, who is only 19

years old, won the 2023 US Open at Flushing Meadows by defeating Aryna Sabalenka, who is 25 years old and is from Belarus. The match took place on September 9, 2023.

Gauff won the tournament at the age of 21, making her the youngest American champion since Serena Williams in 1999.

According to PEOPLE, after winning her first Grand Slam title, Gauff addressed the fans, ‘I feel a little bit

in shock at this moment.’ Gauff was speaking after winning her maiden Grand Slam title. ‘That defeat at

the French Open broke my heart, and as a result, I appreciate every single second of this victory more than I ever thought possible.’

She was thankful to a number of people for their assistance during this amazing adventure. She began by saying thank you to her family

before humorously exposing her father, saying, ‘This is the first time I’ve ever seen my dad cry he doesn’t want me to tell you that.’

Additionally, she was grateful for her detractors and ‘the people who didn’t believe in me.’

She remarked, ‘To those who believed they were pouring water on my fire, you were instead pouring gas on it.

She concluded by thanking King, who had attended the event and had given her a $3 million cheque. The charming

adolescent thanked Billie for battling for this while holding out the $3 million check as the winner.

The US Open, held exactly 50 years ago, was the successful conclusion of the tennis legend’s long-running campaign for equal pay.

The four-time US Open singles winner was recently honored by the former first lady Michelle Obama in a moving address on the occasion of

the 50th anniversary of the US Open becoming the first athletic event to award equal prize money to male and female contestants.

On the first night of the tennis championship, an unexpected tribute to King’s accomplishments in the struggle for female tennis players’ equal pay was given.

In a video footage obtained by Sky Sports, the former First Lady mentions how King has always served as an example for those around her.

The mother of two remarked, ‘Billie Jean shows us that when things are on the line, we all have a choice to make.

‘We have two options: wait and take what is offered. We can remain still and wait for someone else to take up our cause. Or we can take a position on our own.

King has won more than 30 titles throughout the course of her career, but her most notable victory came when she defeated Bobby Riggs in a widely covered ‘Battle of the Sexes’ contest.

It was the first time a female tennis player won the same prize money as a male player for winning a match: $25,000,

making it a significant victory for women’s tennis. It clarifies the significance of women’s sports

and demonstrates how female athletes can compete on an even playing field with their male counterparts.

King remembered, in an interview with Sheinelle Jones from TODAY that aired on August 25, “When we shook hands, put our arms around each other, he said,

‘I underestimated you.’’ It prompted Kings to immediately scan the crowd for her father. She was reminded

of the lessons her father had instilled in her and her brother during their upbringing: ‘Never, ever underestimate your opponent, and always respect them, even if you don’t like them.’
