Sir Anthony Hopkins is a national treasure for both Wales and Great Britain and one of the most renowned actors in the annals of contemporary cinema.

Sir Anthony has received numerous honors throughout the years, including an Olivier Award, two Academy Awards,

four BAFTA Awards, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in 2013.

His commanding presence in movies like The Father, The Remains of the Day, Amistad, Howard’s End, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Legends of the Fall, and Nixon are well known and widely recognized.

But his portrayal of cunning Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs is maybe his most well-known performance.

Sir Anthony is not nearly as menacing off-screen as he is in his iconic on-screen role.

In reality, the renowned actor has evolved into something of a social media sensation as he has gotten older and has become more endearing and weird.

He is well known for his colorful outlook on life, his paintings, his silly antics, and his enjoyment of experiencing everything to the fullest. At the age of 85, that is.

That is precisely why, as he recently documented on his Instagram, he astonished guests with an impromptu piano performance in a hotel lobby.

Hopkins uploaded a video of himself playing a lovely piece of piano music with the description, ‘when an empty hotel lobby is the perfect venue.’

However, as he sat behind the piano and lit its ivories, the hotel lobby wasn’t deserted for very long.

The camera pans as they cheer, seemingly the entire hotel staff having come to see his unexpected performance.

Despite being 85 years old, Sir Anthony seems to be just as enthusiastic as someone half his age.

He has shared recordings of his endearing piano performances with his 4.3 million Instagram followers before; in fact, he does it frequently.

Following their respective roles in the 2016 superhero film Thor: Ragnarok,

Sir Anthony and Jeff Goldblum became friends and undoubtedly saw similar qualities in one another.

During the pandemic’s lockdown period, Sir Anthony Hopkins, who had just found social media, posted a video of himself singing to his cat Niblo, which quickly went viral.

Since then, Hopkins’ Instagram account has grown to be a veritable treasure mine of adorable videos of him playing the piano, dancing joyfully, and acting silly.

Sir Anthony, who is also well-known for being a composer, almost chose a different career route since his mother Annie wanted him to study music and become a concert pianist.

The legendary actor admitted to NPR in 2012: ‘She, of course, wanted me to be a concert pianist, and I had different plans.’

I truly only wanted to be a composer; acting happened by accident. I received a scholarship to a music and theater institution in the hopes of receiving one for music.

He said, that it wasn’t a horrible career to stumble into, ‘but I ended up as an acting student, so I’ve stuck with that for the last fifty or so years.’

Along with his remarkable accomplishments in the entertainment industry, Sir Anthony has also written music for movies and television,

reached No. 76 in the UK charts with his debut single, ‘Distant Star,’ and published an album of classical music in 2012 under the name Composer.
