An 85-year-old woman sees the son she was forced to give up for adoption when she was a youngster. VIDEO

Along the beautiful Oregon coast, where the merciless waves constantly shift the sands of time, memories and secrets are frequently buried deep.

One such untold tale was the tale of a young 15-year-old girl, which had been kept a secret for more than seven decades.

She wasn’t married and was pregnant in 1953.
Her story vanished with the tides during a time when such acts heaped shame onto families.

But the tide eventually brings back what was lost, as it does with everything. On a particularly

difficult day in Newport, Betty Loresung, 85, found herself on the verge of an emotional reunion.

She was going to meet her oldest son, Jeffrey Taylor, for the first time.

For Jeffrey, this encounter signaled the conclusion of a 69-year journey that had served as a boomerang path that brought him full circle.

Young Jeffrey learned that he had been adopted. When he was three years old, he discovered his family history.

But the identity of his birth mother’s face remained a darkness, one he desired to shine light on.

On the other side, Betty had pleasant memories of Jeffrey. She recalled seeing him for a brief moment via a hospital window before they were split apart.

Betty’s life had moved forward.
She went back to her family, remarried, and had six more kids.

Their lives, which included a Volkswagen bus and beach trips in the 1970s, were straight out of the Brady Bunch.

Despite this, the laughter and memories were overshadowed by Jeffrey’s absence.

She maintained it a closely guarded secret, only letting Lucy, her daughter, in on it when she thought history may repeat itself.

Recollections were triggered by Lucy’s firsthand account of being a young mother. At

the age of 15, she also gave birth to a daughter, but unlike her mother, she was able to keep her.

The fact that Lucy had learned about Betty’s past had an impact on her decisions, but it also triggered a family-wide search for Jeffrey.

Their desire to reunite with their family remained unwavering despite previous failures to find him.

Jeffrey has always wanted to meet his birth mother because he had pleasant memories of his upbringing.

His 15-year search was regularly met with discouraging dead ends. The issue was made worse by an outdated Oregon law that demanded

that adoption records be sealed. A reform in the law from 2014, nevertheless, offered some hope.

With the new regulations allowing for easier access to adoption data and the power of social media, the pieces of the puzzle started to fit together.

Each family had a turn acting as the detective.
They received a lovely reunion in Newport as compensation for their efforts.

Betty, who was travelling from Missouri, and Jeffrey, who was flying from California, were joined by family members from all across the nation.

It was clear there was tension.

Their genuine hugs expressed their joy at being reunited, pleasure at having found each other after years of searching, and healing of old wounds.

It was well captured when a family member expressed satisfaction at seeing Betty’s heart was finally whole.

Everyone agreed with Jeffrey’s statement, ‘I made it.’ I’m back at home.

The Newport Sands eventually bore witness to a tale of love, loss, and healing. Finally, a 69-year-old family secret came to light.

The tides may have brought Betty, Jeffrey, and their family together, and while the waves may still alter the shore, nothing will ever be able to tear them apart again.
