In the US state of Nebraska, there is the settlement of Monovi, which has the status of the smallest city in the USA.
The city consists of one street, and its population is just one person who fulfills the duties of librarian, cook, bartender and even mayor.

At one time, 150 people lived in this city, but later they all dispersed. Only Elsie Eiler and her husband Rudy remained.
The woman’s husband died in 2004 and since then the 84-year-old woman has become the only resident of the settlement.
Elsie does not want to move to the neighboring city with her children, because she has her own business here.
The local restaurant is constantly visited by truckers, tourists and people from neighboring towns, who are attracted by the low prices.

Journalists often come and do additional advertising for her.
Elsie runs for mayor herself, withholds taxes (about $500 a year), which she then spends on lighting, and gives herself a license to sell alcohol.
In addition, she maintains a free listing of real estate in the city in case anyone wants to move here.

Elsie’s children and many friends visit her all the time, so she does not feel lonely at all. They bring her everything she needs,
help her with various household chores. ‘I grew up here, I got used to this place and I know what I want.I am happy here’ says the woman.
