Cayleigh Hinton, age 5, had just turned five when her family learned that her father, Army Sgt. Terrence Hinton, had perished in a military truck crash in Hawaii.
At the time, he was 36. Terrence had served in Afghanistan and Iraq before to his injury, and he passed away in a truck accident in Oahu, Hawaii.
The tractor-trailer vehicle, which was being driven by a soldier in his 20s and was hauling heavy machinery,

overturned and crashed when the driver lost control of it. It flipped into a culvert after colliding with a railing.
Terrence, who was in the passenger seat, perished in the collision. It was a nightmare, especially for Jillian Hinton, his wife.
‘It was so unexpected. It was simply mind-blowing for him to complete two tours before passing away in paradise, Jillian said to Today.
‘Even though it’s been nine months, I still sometimes have the impression that he’s deployed. The closer it gets to being final, the more it becomes so.
Following Terrence’s passing in October, the family relocated to Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, where Cayleigh
enrolled at Our Lady of Humility School. Thankfully, the instructors were kind and made her feel at ease. For Cayleigh’s sake, nevertheless, a problem had to be solved.

Before he died away, Terrence had told his daughter that he would take her to the daddy-daughter dance, but now that he was gone, there was no one to fulfill that promise.
In order to find someone willing to volunteer to drive Cayleigh to the dance on February 7, 2018, Jillian wrote
to the Illinois National Guard. The following event was amazing and made everyone’s hearts feel warm. For more information, keep reading.
When 48-year-old Sgt. Joseph Bierbrodt of the Illinois Army National Guard got the letter, he knew he had to
do something special for the young girl that evening. He had never met the family, but he offered to help straight away.
Bierbrodt believed that anyone in the military would provide for his family in the event of his death. He was a father of four with two daughters who were 27 and 16 years old.
In his military uniform, Bierbrodt arrived at Cayleigh’s house full of enthusiasm and asked if she would go on a date with him.

She agreed to his request and he gave her a bouquet and a boutonniere. In addition, he gave her a plush puppy that belonged to his daughters.
‘I didn’t even really have a choice. He told ABC 7 Chicago, ‘I consider it an honor to be able to do this for her.
The evening became even more strange when Bierbrodt drove Cayleigh to school in a limousine while being followed by members of the local
police and fire departments as well as a veterans’ motorcycle club parade. That evening, the child
and the soldier danced and spun, and she even stood on his toes to do the dance she had meticulously practiced.
She told ABC 7 Chicago, ‘I’m quite excellent at it.
Not just Cayleigh and Bierbrodt were pleased with how everything ended out. Jillian expressed her happiness to the outlet
about how the day had gone. She heard Cayleigh talking to her late husband and thought he was present.
Bierbrodt intends to stay in touch with Cayliegh and even prepares to sew her official camouflage clothing.
He told Today that ‘the military is a family.’ ‘We remain a unit.’
