Sam Rouen shed an incredible 157 pounds while competing on The Biggest Loser in 2008. At just 19 years old,
he weighed about 340 pounds, and he went on to become the youngest winner of The Biggest Loser in Australia, breaking previous records.
He discusses life after the win, his progress eleven years after appearing on the show, and his future aspirations in this 2019 video.

Sam has maintained his weight loss and is still leading a healthy lifestyle now. The hosts of the Australian talk show Studio 10
invited him for an interview in which they went into further detail about his past experiences and present life.
In the video below, Sam is asked if he remembers struggling at all when he was 19 years old and how he thinks about himself in retrospect.
He responds, ‘I don’t think I really do…it seems like a lifetime ago.’ It’s been a while since I’ve ever actually looked at pictures like that.
I feel like I’ve changed drastically.’ He says he was a really happy child with lots of friends, but he also said that being overweight might make you feel a little depressed.

Sam also discusses his experience losing so much weight while appearing on the show. Many people could encounter
difficulties maintaining a weight loss program that would eventually yield results and reducing weight.
For many, the added pressure of exercising and dieting in order to compete against other candidates on a show like
The Biggest Loser can be difficult. Upon being asked if he had considered quitting up along the journey, he responded emphatically ‘no.’
In the interview, Sam shares with the hosts how the challenge began for him on a day-by-day basis,
extended into weeks, then into months, and culminated in his being weighed and stepping on stage to win the season.

Sam adds that although it would have taken him far longer off The Biggest Loser, he would prefer to think positively and feels that he could have shed the same amount of weight regardless of the show.
In the video, he expands on this discussion by discussing his time in college, when he mostly consumed drinks and junk food.
Despite growing up as a huge kid, he maintained his physical fitness and participated in sports like cross-country running.
He claims that his dramatic weight gain didn’t begin until he stopped playing sports and became older.

Sam has always wanted to be a firefighter, and he is one now. Additionally, he receives praise from the hosts for his ‘raunchy’ calendar shoot, which accentuates his amazing abs and toned figure.
In response, he says he is thrilled to be a part of the Australian Firefighter’s Calendar, a charity that
funds the Children’s Hospital Foundation. From being a plump 19-year-old to being a fit and healthy man now, he has gone a long way.
Listening to Sam’s life story is worthwhile because he embodies the proverb ‘Where there is a will, there is a way.’
