Gnocchi, an 11-year-old chihuahua, began to lose faith that he would spend his final years in the tender arms of his human after spending months at a canine rescue.
The small man, who had been saved from a hoarding household and was missing all of his teeth, was slowly losing his soul since he was being ignored by guests at the shelter.
A 101-year-old woman was lamenting the passing of her cherished dog Rocky at the same time, and she yearned to occupy the empty spot on her
lap where he used to sleep. Then, destiny united them, giving them the opportunity to enjoy unwavering love into their golden years.

Johanna Carrington of California was in mourning over Rocky, her four-legged fur pet, who passed away a few months before she turned 101.
She missed Rocky, who passed away in 2022 and left a large emptiness in her heart, so there wasn’t much to celebrate.
He enjoyed curling up on my lap, which is one of the reasons I missed him so much. After Rocky left, the house appeared incredibly empty,
and I was depressed,’ Carrington told the Washington Post. After Rocky’s passing, Debbie Carrington,
the mother of the Carringtons, revealed that her mother’s attitude drastically changed and she want to cheer her up with a new animal companion.
Debbie, however, was concerned that because Carrington was getting older, she might not be able to take care of the adorable animal and that it might even survive her.
‘We weren’t sure if my mom, who was 100 years old at the time, could possibly have a dog at her age.
About the possibility of being turned down by a rescue, she remarked, ‘I honestly wondered if anyone would allow it.’

However, the mother and daughter eventually discovered the Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, a unique location that gives elderly canines a lot of love and dignity as they age.
The centenarian applied for the adoption of an elderly dog just before her 100th birthday, and she anxiously awaited a response from the senior dog shelter.
The form was extremely detailed, and Carrington clarified that she had Debbie and her own caregiver as part of a solid support network to assist in taking care of her new buddy.
‘We discovered that my mom could adopt another dog as long as she had a strong support system, which she does,’ Debbie said.
‘My mother had spent her entire life rescuing dogs, so we knew having another one would be extremely beneficial for her, even at the age of 100.’
The ideal combination
When Muttville’s adoption counselor Alice Ensor looked
over her application, she initially thought it was rather typical. That is, until she realized Carrington was a hundred years old.
‘I was a little taken aback when I initially got Johanna’s adoption questionnaire,” Ensor admitted to The Dodo.

Being 100 years old is undoubtedly a significant accomplishment. A centenarian looking to bring home a new mutt is not something we see very frequently.
I was aware that Johanna would need to be an exceptionally unique dog lover in order to be searching for a new companion before turning 101.
The Muttville staff got to work matching Carrington with the ideal new puppy.
The lovely white dog had been at the rescue for months, but she was beginning to lose hope and become depressed.
The adoption specialist thought Carrington was his human, and all he wanted was to spend his last days in the arms of a loving person.
Initially in love
Ensor remarked that ‘it was love at first sight’ when Carrington viewed Gnocchi during a video call.
When Gnocchi—now known as Gucci—moved into his new house in September 2022, he jumped on the vacant spot on her lap right away.
‘I had never experienced that before. ‘He just jumped on my lap and planted a kiss on me,’ reveals 102-year-old Carrington.
It was astounding. I’m reclining because I find it difficult to walk. He leaped on me as soon as he ascended the stairs and began to kiss me.
Gucci often spends his time on his mother’s lap receiving back massages when he’s not out for walks with Debbie or Carrington’s caregiver.
In addition, he is a fashionista, as his new name implies.
I’ve got a sweater for him so he remains warm. With a longing gaze, I believe he is appreciative that I keep him warm,’ remarked of her voguish best buddy.
Her daughter reports that although it was silent and depressing, ‘Gucci brought joy into the house.’ Debbie said her mother is happy and healthy,
which is evidence of the beneficial effects pets have on our general well-being. ‘Laughing about him running around and doing funny things,

and then also him sleeping on her lap with her while she’s in her recliner or sleeping in her bed, it’s just making her very happy,’Debbie added.
Debbie, who plans to adopt Gucci should he outlive her mother, said, ‘She’s a lot happier and she and Gucci have become best friends.’
‘Gucci follows her everywhere and is really nice with her. When she gets ready for bed at night, he waits for her in the bathroom.
He then follows her to bed and cuddles up with her. There is a strong kinship there that is evident to all.
Carrington says, ‘I’m very happy with him! He keeps me company and sits on my lap, which I adore.
At my age, it makes a huge difference to have someone to love and care for like Gucci in my life.
That Gucci and Johanna Carrington were able to connect makes us very delighted!
