Numerous supermodels have gained notoriety in recent decades as a result of their distinct beauty and the way they portrayed themselves through style and fashion.
Among them was Twiggy, who, after her discovery in 1966, rose to prominence as a representation of beauty.
Lesley Lawson, the real name of the model and fashion designer, was born on September 19, 1949. She grew up in the UK district of Neasden, which is near London.
Twiggy’s passion in fashion began at a young age, when her mother taught her how to sew. Later on, she made her own clothes using this talent.
The model reminisced on a moment when she was just 14 years old in a 2019 piece she wrote for British Vogue. She began working hard at the time and secured a Saturday job as a hairdresser.
She would go to Kensington’s Abingdon Road and buy clothes with the money she earned.
‘At that point, I was just a regular girl in Neasden. I wear the same outfit to the grammar school every day of the week:
a red tie, a white shirt, and a navy-plated skirt that I always got in trouble for rolling up at the waist to make it shorter,” the writer stated.
Twiggy was an overnight cultural phenomenon, but even though she was no longer as well-known as she once was,
the supermodel didn’t give up and kept up her career in the fashion industry. Continue reading to learn more about her appearance and her activities following her successful modeling career.

Twiggy claimed that her parents would let her to attend a mod club despite the fact that she was only 14 years old (mods were a 1950s British fashion trend known for being contemporary,
consumer-driven, and heavily party-oriented). She tried to mimic the outfits of the older girls by observing what they wore,
but she always added her own unique touch and created the outfits that she and her closest friend would wear.
Subsequently, one of her acquaintances advised her to acquire some test photos—which are frequently taken for modeling.
Even though she cherished her beautiful, shoulder-length hair, she later made the decision to change up her look and cut it short.
Little did she know that decision would be the catalyst for her career’s explosion.
‘I reluctantly agreed to the chop, but it almost immediately established my fashion career. After meeting with me a few weeks after viewing my photo,
writer Deidre McSharry wrote in The Daily Express that she was ‘it,’ citing former American Vogue editor-in-chief Diana Vreeland as her inspiration.
‘My life became a whirlwind,’ the model added.
Her life drastically changed during the next few years as she worked and cooperated with renowned photographers like David Bailey, Bert Stern, and Richard Avedon.
She also donned clothing from some of the top fashion brands, like Saint Laurent and Pierre Cardin.
Regretfully, she did not lead a glamorous or glittering life. The Guardian said that she later married actor Michael Whitney in 1977. Together, they had a child named Carly.
Her ex-husband’s alcoholism issues were the main source of their marital problems. Years later, the actor killed tragically after collapsing just before their daughter’s fifth birthday.

Twiggy got married again in 1988 and has been seeing Leigh Lawson ever since.
Twiggy ‘retired” four years after her career took off, but that didn’t mean she stopped working entirely, according to a Daily Express piece from 2018.
The model continued to remain active as she moved on to create films, record music, act, design clothing, and more.
Decades after her enormous success, Twiggy shared her work ethic: ‘I pick and select what I do now and don’t really say ‘yes’
to anything unless I feel enthusiastic about them, which is really essential at this time of life. At my age, I believe I deserve that.
In terms of her private life, Twiggy is now a proud grandma because her stepson had two children and her daughter had one.
‘I am incredibly thrilled to be the best babysitter in the world. It would be awful if you missed that since they are small for a brief period of time, the woman continued.
After turning 74 in 2023, Twiggy stayed involved in the entertainment industry by hosting a podcast called ‘Tea With Twiggy,’
which she described as a “intimate weekly chat” with some of her closest friends over a beautiful cup of tea.
In addition, she enjoyed posting both recent and old pictures to her Instagram account to update her followers on her life.
Twiggy appeared for a Mother’s Day greeting post with her daughter in a single photo uploaded in 2022.
The model’s ageless beauty was praised by admirers in the comment area, with one writing: “Your still beautiful & so is your daughter ❤️.”
‘Very lovely 😍,’ one person wrote.
