Matthew has often stated that without his amazing mother’s love and support, he would not be where he is now.

Matthew had a difficult upbringing years before he achieved enormous success in Hollywood. He said in a 2020 interview with Willie Geist on Sunday Today that his parents’

methods of disciplining him and his siblings may have been abusive, but he took a different stance.

He recalled, ‘Although I was scared at the time, I never doubted Mom and Dad’s love for us or their love for us even then or immediately after that.’

Based on more than three decades’ worth of journal entries, his memoir “Greenlights” covers the most of the significant events in his life.

He remarked, ‘I tell these stories that are violent, bloody, and ugly sometimes.’ ‘I believe the reason I share this with them is because

during those moments, our unwavering love was put to the test, but it was never in danger of failing,’ he remarked.

In a reading from an episode of the web talk program “Red Table Talk,’he also shared details of his early years, saying,

‘There was nothing fictitious about the love though, the love was real.’ Sometimes bloody, but never in doubt.

As the book recounts, one unfortunate incident involving him occurred when he and Camila told Kay McConaughey they were expecting a child.

At first, Kay was excited to get ‘good news,’ but she fell silent upon learning that Camila was expecting.

A line from the book claims that Kay was enraged when she spoke, exclaiming, ‘Matthew! It’s not in order here!I raised you to get married before you had kids. The actor recalled what his mother had said.

Matthew, this is all untrue. I apologize, Camila, but this is not how I raised you or how I raised my child. In the memoir, he went on, ‘I’m not happy at all.

Camila and Matthew were shocked by what they heard when Kay hung up the phone.

In an August 2023 episode of the ‘Biscuits & Jam’ podcast, Camila revealed that when Matthew started dating her in 2006,

Kay seemed to treat her badly. First, as Entertainment Tonight reports, his mother put her to the test.

‘When I first arrived on the scene, she did all of these things… It was almost like she was testing me.

I mean, it’s really taxing me. She would start calling me by all of Matthew’s ex-girlfriends, and

she would start talking to me in a slightly degrading terrible Spanish. I mean, everything,’ Camila said, reflecting on her earlier encounters.

Matthew did, however, confirm that his mother’s actions were driven by initiation in a follow-up interview with ET Canada.

In my family, there are rigorous rites of passage and initiation, and it’s challenging to become a McConaughey. ‘We test you,’he declared.

It appeared like Camila and Kay’s past was now in the past when he added that his wife had broken his mother’s harsh streak.

‘Camila says, ‘I will no longer be requesting your permission.’’ I mean, my mom was like, ‘There we go.’ That’s right, he explained.
